Or you could become totally deflated because you arrived in West Yellowstone and now have to drive back out of town to reach your campground miles out of town.

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park is literally 2 blocks away from downtown West Yellowstone. The convenience of walking into town for a quick bite of dinner or shopping for the perfect tee-shirt. You know the one…the picture of the bear with a family that reads “Look a Menu”. Our family, Jack and I, love that shirt!

Here’s the best part, Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park is 1.2 miles (2000 meters) from the West Yellowstone Gate! Thanks to the perfect location, you get to skip waiting in line at the traffic light. Go you! Your trip planner earned a high five on this one! Go Sara!!!

First Impressions: Arrival

My first impression was this campground is 100% with the program. Campers arrive to about 5 or 6 super long staging lanes in front of the main office. Clearly, they have been there and done that. We arrived around 1 pm because we had a short drive day from Billings KOA (which we loved!).

Check-In Process

Grizzly RV Park Guest Services

Sara ventured inside to graciously ask for an early check-in. The check-in process was very thorough. Sara received detailed instructions on all campground rules and regulations. Including keeping all tires on the parking pad.

We were fortunate and the campground gods were with us! In the worst case, we could have unhitched and stowed the RV before heading off for fun in Yellowstone National Park. But, let’s be honest, setting up before heading into the park is ideal!

Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park Appearance and Upkeep

Our hats are off to the staff of Yellowstone Grizzly for maintaining the grounds impeccably. The interior roads were nicely paved, very wide, and easily navigated. All the grass was neatly trimmed. Any trash was promptly picked up by the staff.

In addition, the grounds, the buildings, and other structures were well cared for. We visited and utilized the bathhouses as well as the laundry. Both more than met our needs and expectations. The bathhouses were clean and well-stocked with toilet paper, soap, and paper towels. The shower water pressure was good and the water was nice and hot!

Overall, Yellowstone Grizzly’s appearance and upkeep were excellent!

Campground Layout

Yellowstone Grizzly’s layout is a traditional loop style with 3 loops. The loops provide accommodation for approximately 75 RVs on the loop closest to the entrance. The smallest loop holds approximately 25 RVs. And the largest loop holds nearly 200 RVs. Considering the number of rigs housed here, the park did not feel crowded.

Are the Sites Back-In or Pull Through

Grizzly RV offers a mix of back-in and pull-through. with the majority being pull through.

Campsites

All Campsites have level gravel pads and many include a paver patio with a very nice picnic table. I don’t recall seeing fire rings, but fire bans are fairly regular in this area, so it’s not surprising. Each site has some grass and landscaping around the utility hook-ups which provides some privacy from the neighbors. Again, these sites are close…the trade-off for being 1.2 miles from the West Yellowstone entrance!

Grizzly RV Park Site 212 Patio

We stayed in site 212. This site was easy to get into and out of in terms of setting up our 40-foot fifth wheel. The interior roads are very wide. Which allowed us to make wide turns and align into our space quickly. Site 212 provided ample room for our truck and camper. All 4 wheels of your tow vehicle MUST be fully touching your site OR you will receive a notice from the campground. They are clear about this up front!

The utility hookups were easy to reach with our cords and hoses. All power connections worked as expected. The water tasted good and had good pressure!

Most sites had a clear northern sky view, which is critical for a preferred Starlink connection. Starlink speed varies based on users in the area. I lost count of the number of Starlink dishes I saw at the campground. More than just ours! Still, Starlink worked fine for our purpose (e.g., getting work done while on the road).

Value for Money Spent

Site 212 is a Premium Pull-Through and ran us about $150 a night. On the surface, this seems steep, but hotels in West Yellowstone will set you back about $250 or more a night!

Considering the location this rate per night is a bargain!!!!

Rating

We like to rank campgrounds based on the campground and the site out of a ranking of 1 to 5. In our case, campgrounds ranked based on 1 to 5 campers and campsites based on 1 to 5 campfires!
