New Orleans RV Resort and Marina Reviews: A Great Place for RV Travelers in the Big Easy
First Impressions and Arrival
Looking for honest New Orleans RV Resort and Marina reviews? Discover why this lakeside resort is the perfect base for your Big Easy adventure! Whether you’re planning a couples only get away or a fun adventure with your kids, New Orleans RV Resort is the place to be!

The Road to the Resort
The New Orleans RV Resort and Marina is located on the southwest side of Lake Pontchartrain, offering a blend of urban convenience and waterfront charm. Approaching the resort via France Rd, you’ll drive through an industrial area, with shipyards and scattered debris that might make you second-guess your choice. As we approached I was worried our RV GPS was leading us straight into a major homeless encampment! Fortunately after we passed the Highway 90 On-Ramp we were clear of the discarded tires and mattresses! Don’t let this deter you—push through to the gated entrance, where a great park awaits.

We visited New Orleans in late December and the weather was excellent. For a complete packing guide CLICK HERE!
Gated Entry for Peace of Mind
Once inside, the resort feels secure, with a gate that closes nightly at 9 PM and reopens at 6 AM. Entry is controlled by an access code provided during check-in, a thoughtful feature for an urban campground. When we left at 6 AM on New Year’s Day the entrance gate was closed, but the exit gate was wide open, so I guess one out of two counts for something, right?
Features and Amenities of New Orleans RV Resort
Spacious Sites with Full Hookups
The resort is perfect for RV travelers who want to visit the Big Easy with their RV. The sites are spacious gravel sites that are level which made set-up a breeze. Each site has a landscaping barrier which creates a nice natural break between campsites. Our neighboring site, Site 16, was buddy site (e.g., pull-in site). Normally, these sites feel very close and almost like shared space. The landscaping really helped create two spaces!

Whether you choose a pull-through or back-in site, you’ll enjoy a picnic table, full hookups (20, 30, and 50 amps), water, and sewer connections. For those wanting an elevated experience, the deluxe waterfront RV sites offer views of the Inter Harbor Waterway directly off of Lake Pontchartrain.
The waterview is nice if you can block out the heavy industrial warehouses across the causeway. Our site, Site 17, had a nice morning sunrise view several days. The boat docked directly behind our camper helped make the view even more fabulous!
Family-Friendly Features
This nice RV park has been designed with families in mind:

- Nice Pool: The swimming pool area, complete with a decorative waterfall (no jumping) that spills into the hot tub below. The hot tub was closed when we visited (December 2024).
- Playground: While modest, it’s perfect for young children needing to burn off some energy.
- Cornhole Boards: Located under the main building, ensuring rainy-day fun.
- Dog Park: A pet-friendly addition, ideal for four-legged companions. Finn is not a fan of dog parks, so we did not spend time in the dog park. Note, the campground does not have much grass, so you may have to do several “laps” around the grassy area for your dog to do his business!

Convenience and Comfort

- On-Site Restaurant and Full Bar: The onsite restaurant is a nice restaurant with tasty local cuisine options, a daily happy hour, and occasional live music on Saturday nights.
- Internet Access: The campground offers Wifi for a daily fee. Since we are in the city, cellular service (hotspots) worked well and we had a very clear view for our Starlink to access the passing satellites.
- Convenience Store: Stocked with RV essentials and souvenirs, it’s perfect for forgotten items or a quick snack.
- Laundry Facilities and Fitness Center: Both are well-maintained and conveniently accessible, with the laundry running 24/7. The fitness center includes a treadmill, yoga mats, free weights, and is open 9 AM to 9 PM. For more ideas on staying in shape while RV Camping click here!

Shuttle Service for City Access
One of the standout features is the daily shuttle to downtown New Orleans, including the French Quarter. For those wanting to explore without the stress of parking, this service is invaluable and contributes to the resort’s reputation as an ideal spot for RV travelers. The shuttle bus has a per passenger charge of approximately $20, so we chose to take Uber. We found Uber to be a great way to get into the French Quarter!

New Orleans is a city where many visitors go to experience the food and drinks of the French Quarter. We recommend taking Uber to avoid the headache of parking and drinking and driving!
Location: A Prime Spot for Exploring
Close to Key Attractions
The resort’s location is hard to beat. It’s a short drive (about 15 minutes) to the heart of New Orleans, including Bourbon Street, St. Charles Avenue, and all the action. . It’s also well-positioned for visiting local attractions like swamp tours, historical plantations, and Hurricane Katrina memorials.
Convenient for Adventurers
With a boat launch and proximity to Lake Pontchartrain, it’s easy to enjoy water activities or a serene morning by the lake. The availability of free Wi-Fi and excellent Starlink reception ensures you stay connected while enjoying nature.
Pros and Cons of New Orleans RV Resort
What We Loved
- Beautiful Waterfront Spot: Our waterfront site was perfect for enjoying quiet mornings with coffee by the lake.
- Safety and Security: The gated access provided peace of mind during our stay. Regardless of the gate being closed or note, we felt safe at New Orleans RV Resort. Several days I went for a run along France Road without any concern for my safety.
- Uber Convenience: Take the guess work out of navigating downtown in your tow vehicle with Uber! Uber pick-up was quick and easy. For about $30 you can grab a ride downtown.
Room for Improvement
- Bathhouse Maintenance: While functional, some facilities could be cleaner and better stocked with Toilet Paper!
- Staffing: The campground seemed understaffed. Check-in took a while because only one person was working. Before our stay we called the campground and were greeted with a “please hold and it will be a while…” Literally, the attendant never answered the phone or our question!
- Water Pressure: The water pressure in the campground is low and made showering difficult.
- Industrial Area: The waterway behind the campground is a working causeway with tug boats that make occasional noise as they power by. The drive down France Rd could benefit from cleaner surroundings to create a better first impression.
Other RV Resorts in New Orleans
We considered French Quarter RV Resort and New Orleans KOA Holiday. The French Quarter RV Resort would be super convenient and we nearly stayed there but the night rate escalated for our final night because of the Sugar Bowl. We decided $300 or $400 per night was out of our range and found the New Orleans RV Resort & Marina. Another drawback on the French Quarter RV Resort is the noise. The campground is directly under Interstate 10, so the road noise is constant.
The New Orleans KOA Holiday is further out…near the international airport. The location of New Orleans RV Resort and Marina was much better and the campground included all the amenities we wanted!

About Us
We are Mike and Sara, and our kids and dog are exploring the US while camping in our fifth wheel! Since the late 90s we have been exploring the great outdoors one hiking trail at a time. We introduced our kids to hiking while they were young and they love exploring new places. We call Kentucky home and we find ourselves exploring the state parks, national parks, and other wildlands in our area as often as we can!
Our RV camping journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic. Waking up close to the trails we love hiking was enough for us to get hooked on the camping lifestyle! Thanks for following our adventures!
